What’s new with Shopify?

From boosting sales to making order fulfilment easier, we’re always on the lookout for new ways to make our clients’ lives easier and their eCommerce stores excel. So, we regularly check out Shopify’s new apps and features to help us do just that.

As a Shopify Plus Partner, we’re pretty impressed with all of Shopify’s features, so here’s a round-up of some recently-launched ones that we’ll definitely be using…

Automatic discounts

You can now have automatic discounts applied to the checkout, without the customer having to enter a discount code.

These are useful for ‘buy X get Y’ promos (such as 3 for 2 or buy one get one free), making it much easier to run creative promotions in your eCommerce store.


You can now manage all of your inventory locations in Shopify.

Whether a retail store, warehouse or pop-up, Shopify allows you to have better visibility of your full business, allowing you to track and fulfil orders across all the places your inventory lives.

Sell on Instagram

Convert social activity to sales with Shopify’s Instagram Sales Channel. You can tag products in your posts and stories to send your followers direct to your online store.

Shopify Flow

Shopify Flow allows you to run workflows triggered by an event in Shopify which then carries out an action in the store.

To do this, Shopify has enabled connectors. These are apps that can be integrated into your workflows. The apps can trigger a workflow to carry out an action, either in the store or within another app.

One example is using the app ‘Bond’ to send handwritten notes to your customers after a certain number of orders.

Shopify AR

This allows customers, on iOS 12 devices, to view realistic and interactive versions of your products in augmented reality (AR). Never has ‘try before you buy’ been so easy!

Product Cost

Record the cost of your products in Shopify. This is available on the Shopify plan and above, to allow you to report on your margins.

Coming soon….

Ability to edit orders (expected next month). Allow customers to pay in their local currency (currently in closed beta but launching early 2019).

Ones to watch out for next year…

Duties API - calculate and collect landed costs on your international orders on Shopify checkout rather than sending customers offsite. Tax compliance - Canada launched December 2018; rest of world expected in 2019.
