The sun has now set on the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping weekend for another year. Customers have grabbed their must-have bargains and retailers across the board have, we hope, seen a big boost in sales.
And now comes the fun part… analysing the stats! (Along with unwrapping our many impulse purchases, of course).
As a Shopify Plus partner, we were really interested to find out how all of the 600k Shopify merchants around the world fared on Black Friday. And the numbers speak for themselves.
Over the course of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, Shopify Stores took $1.5 billion USD in total sales. They received 10,978 peak orders per minute and $870k USD peak sales per minute. That’s an amazing result and it’s great to see Shopify stores having such a big impact on the busiest shopping weekend of the year.
Aside from those amazing sales figures, in our opinion, the most interesting Black Friday Shopify stat was tweeted by Shopify’s CEO, Tobi Lütke…
“10% of online sales on Black Friday went through Shopify stores. Five years ago it was below 1%.”
Clearly, people are cottoning on to what we’ve known for a while…Shopify is one of the most robust, scalable eCommerce platforms available. Retailers are choosing to invest in a platform they know is tailored to their needs, easy to use and won’t let them down.
Having worked with eCommerce platforms for many years (we even wrote our own a few years ago!), we feel we have the experience and know-how to make those claims confidently.
So, what’s Shopify?
Shopify is a complete eCommerce platform that helps you start, grow and manage a business. It handles everything including inventory, payments and shipping, and you can customise your own online store from a template or bespoke design. It even allows you to sell in multiple places, such as Amazon, social media and brick-and-mortar locations.
Basically, it’s an admin platform for managing products and orders.
Why do we use it?
Having previously used other, non-hosted platforms and also managed our own, custom admin system, we know the headache hosting and server issues can cause. Especially when these issues happen during key sales periods like Black Friday!
Shopify is a fully-hosted, cloud-based platform, so instead of worrying about servers crashing, we can be proactive and focus on what we do best. We can spend more time making our clients’ online stores work more efficiently, look great for customers and ultimately, generate more sales.
Retailers around the world recognise these benefits too, which is why Shopify is growing in popularity.
Why do we love it so much?
Shopify’s servers are lightning fast (so you can rest assured you’re in safe hands during busy sales periods) and, should a problem occur, the support team is available 24/7.
It has a great API which means that with a bit of effort, it can integrate into other platforms. There are over 1,200 apps available to help extend a store’s functionality, meaning features such as BOGOF promotions, wishlists and product filtering can be implemented into a store really easily.
There are several plans available depending on the size and requirements of your business. Simply put, Shopify is just as effective for small independents as it is international retailers.
We have a range of clients using different plans and they all find Shopify ideal for their varied needs. Click here to find out who they are.
