There’s a new kid on the block at our Manchester office, so we thought we’d take a few minutes to find out more about him and his background. So without further ado, meet Alex, our new Account Director.
Tell us a bit about your background…
I’ve lived in Manchester all my life, apart from a short stint at the University of Sheffield, where I studied Business Management and Marketing. This is when I first caught the marketing bug and have stuck in the industry ever since!
Over the years, I’ve worked at several agencies, and with clients from a variety of industries, including professional services, hospitality, leisure and retail. After working on some really successful campaigns, I decided to specialise in eCommerce - I had a feeling I could really add value to this sector.
Outside of work, when I’m not banging my head on door frames (tall people problems), I’m a keen petrol head and whisky nerd (rest assured, they don’t go hand-in-hand). I also enjoy spending hours in the kitchen trying to be the next Masterchef. Though I’m still waiting for the call-up,despite applying a considerable number of times 🙄
What were your first impressions of Strawberry?
Everyone is so nice! I’ve only been here a couple of weeks and despite the entire M62 standing between the Hull and Manchester offices, I feel like I’ve know everyone for years. I’d say that’s a very good first impression.
The quality of Strawberry’s work and the calibre of clients was also a massive draw for me. I’m excited to get stuck in and work with the many household names who choose Strawberry as their digital partner.
What drew you to your job/this industry?
There are really two main reasons why I jumped at the chance to work with Strawberry.
Firstly, I’ve always loved working on eCommerce projects, and I knew this opportunity would allow me to take that to the next level. Working with eCommerce clients puts you at the coal face of their businesses, and allows you to explore many different areas, not just marketing. For instance, one day I could be reviewing a client’s revenue figures and delivering commercial reports on activity, the next I could be looking at how we marry their online and in-store experiences. I love the variety it offers.
Secondly, the opportunity to kick-start the Manchester office with my new bud Uzo is something I just couldn’t turn down. If the success of the first two weeks is anything to go by, we’re onto a good thing here! So watch this space…
Go on. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
Next year, I’m turning the big 30 and feel the need to do something memorable to mark the occasion. For me, a week in Ibiza just wouldn’t quite hit the mark, so I’ll be climbing the world’s largest freestanding mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro, instead. Wish me luck!
So, how’re you finding the Manchester office?
It’s great! The XYZ Building is a real hub of activity and we’re settling in just nicely. The location at Spinningfields is ideal and even though we’re not based with the other Strawbs, we still feel like part of the team. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and working on eCommerce projects for our clients in the North West!
Welcome to team Strawberry, Alex!
He’s a food-loving, car-racing, head-banging, mountain-climbing whiskey connoisseur with a passion for eCommerce.
We’ll all be fighting over him when it comes to Secret Santa time!
