Social media resolutions for 2020

It’s a new year, so what better time to take a fresh look at your social media channels and consider how you can up your game. Can you make them perform better for your business? Can you engage your audiences further?

If your social platforms need some TLC, here are some new year’s resolutions to get you on the right track to success…

Check your profile information

Be honest, when was the last time you read your ‘bio’ sections? If you haven’t touched these since you opened your accounts, there’s every chance they’ll be a little stale. Revisit these to make sure each is still relevant and ensure all fields are filled in, where possible.

Create a content plan and stick to it

Don’t get stuck in a rut with your social media content this year. Pull together a content plan to ensure your social content complements your wider communications strategy. By planning your content in advance, you can be sure each channel will be churning out interesting, engaging stuff all year-round.

Never created a social media content plan? We’ve shared some tips to get you started, here.

Delve into the analytics

Social media analytics can provide you with some extremely valuable insights about your audience and the effectiveness of your activity. If you’ve never looked at them before, you need to start now.

You can discover all sorts of information, including your audiences’ demographic data, interests, when they’re online, and their location. You can also measure your success and find out how many people your posts have reached and how much engagement you’ve achieved.

This information can all be used to tailor your future activity and get the most from your updates.

Create unique content for each channel

Nobody likes to read the same content three times. Nobody likes to read the same content three times. Nobody likes to read the same content three times. That’s what your audience experiences when you share the same post across all of your social media channels, day in, day out.

Mix things up in 2020 and start thinking of different ways to communicate your messages. Try adopting a different strategy for each social channel - you may just receive more engagement by doing this.

It’s all about stories

If you’re not making use of Instagram stories, you should be. Over 500M users interact with them daily (an increase of 200M since the previous year!) and they’re only becoming more popular. This is a great feature for sharing ‘sneak peeks’ and ‘behind-the-scenes’ content, which gives your business that bit more personality.

Video, video, video

Did you know that videos are a consumers’ favourite type of content to see from a brand on social media?

If you want your social content to have maximum impact in 2020, you need to adopt video. Fast.

Recent research discovered that viewers are 95% more likely to remember a call to action after watching it in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in a text format. If you want your message to be heard, video’s the way to go.

Share the love

Obviously, you want your followers to like, share and engage with your stuff. But when was the last time you did this with other users’?

Take some time to link to other people’s blogs, share other users’ social content and always, always reply to anyone who comments on your posts. If you share a little love, you may well get some back!
